ABOUT M.A. ROSS
Hello, I'm M.A. Ross. I'm an author of Scottish contemporary fiction and released my independently published debut novel EMPTY in October 2025. The sequel should hopefully be available sometime in early 2027 and I promise to reveal the title and cover very soon!
I grew up in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland and both my parents hail from the Western Isles which is partly what inspires my writing. I now live in Glasgow with my husband and we both answer to our bossy cat, Cossie.

I am an avid reader of fiction of all genres and my favourite authors include Matt Haig, Joanne Harris, Marian Keyes, Liane Moriarty and Sebastian Faulks.

WHERE BOBBY'S STORY BEGINS...
Set against the wild beauty of the Outer Hebrides, EMPTY is a story deeply rooted in Lewisian gneiss.
The landscape, Gaelic culture, humour and community all form the world of Bobby MacNeil.
An archipelago of sheer rugged beauty, these islands compare to no other and can be found to the north-west of mainland Scotland. Each individual island has its own unique charm and the one Bobby calls home is the northernmost: the Isle of Lewis.

Where can I purchase a copy of EMPTY?
-Thanks so much for your interest! Please check out the links below to buy online. Alternatively, check out any local bookstore and they might have it in stock. If not, they will be able to order one.
Is it available as an e-book?
-Absolutely! Just check out wherever you usually purchase your e-books from.
How about an audio version?
-Unfortunately not at the moment. As an independent author, it is extremely costly to do this. However, I really hope to have one recorded in the future.
Will there be a sequel to EMPTY?
-YES! The manuscript for the sequel has been completed, and after some editing, proof reading and LOTS of admin it'll be available to buy. The title and cover have been chosen and I will reveal these once an I.S.B.N. has been assigned.
Are you going to write anything else?
-Now that I have been bitten by the writing bug, I have no plans to stop. I have notebooks scattered around with my ideas jotted down and plan to work on these over the coming months. There is one idea in particular that I am keen on but am unsure whether it'll produce a short story, novella or another novel at this stage. I'm just going to keep typing until I'm satisfied that I have a decent story!
Did you design your own cover?
-I wish I had that talent! I had an idea of reflecting the nostalgic aspect of the story by having various bits of teen paraphernalia strewn across the design but the rest was left in the capable hands of Andie Henderson, a freelance illustrator based here in Glasgow. Will you be attending any bookish events?
-Yes. I will have a stall at the Edinburgh Book Bonanza in Le Monde Hotel in the city centre on the 17th of October. Please come along if you can! I also hope to get some more booked in for 2027 but will perhaps wait until my sequel has been published.
